Welcome to Friends of Women Foundation
Friends of Women Foundation is a non profit organization which is working to empower women and the youth in Ghana to assist in reducing poverty. Also to advance their rights in the communities, through the promotion of girl child education and acquiring of vocational skills, strategies on how to grow their businesses to promote economic growth, capacity building programs and the advancement of their health and reproductive rights.
Friends of women foundation is a spirit filled commission which was formed and conceived by Theresa Foli. A woman whose actions are driven by the great vision of empowerment and a transformation call to our social and economic freedom and the well being of our societies.
Poverty has been looked at from various dimensions. Shortcomings and social deprivation in the context of income oriented poverty, prime aspects of human development and lack of education are some of the major issues of the poverty in the Western region.
Un-skilled individuals as well as households, headed by woman are also beset by poverty.
Therefore Friends of Women are prompted in developing logic of understanding the characteristics and the economic issues concerning with women and youth in the western region. Notwithstanding the great economic potential of the region, the development of the region, which would increase economic activity and bring progress, is lagging behind the two other industrial regions of Greater Accra and Ashanti.
It is on this note that Friends of Women foundation is established to assist these women and the youth to have a education, skills trade and to be self empowered. They are then supported with financial and non financial services to achieve sustainability. Our service rendered is a specialized based type, focusing on women and youth empowerment and the transformation in our socio economic and our community political freedom.
Our services are aimed at improving the access of targeted groups to resources, hand made skills and opportunities for income generation.
These include programs such as women and youth group formation and empowerment, income generation activities, non-formal education and skills training. Most of these programs already exist, but FOW have designed a curriculum to fit our target, for the expected benefit. This is however organized in three phases, namely the Development phase, Transformation phase and lastly the Maturity phase.
An integration of Skills training, Semi-formal Education and uniquely it comes with Micro credit.
MISSION STATEMENT
A non profitable organization set to identify and train poor rejected active women and girls in our deprived communities in hand made skills for self and economic empowerment. We integrate a developmental tool through education and business development studies training, through our qualified training curriculum manual, for them to attract a micro credit facility to manage their viable and competitive rural medium enterprises for their transformation and sustainability in the communities.
VISION
To identify, develop, and transform a rejected and poor community, mostly women through skills training. We develop them till they can manage their own Small Medium enterprises through extending support in microfinance. We then monitor and mentor them for capacity building till they are sustainable to meet their basic developmental needs in their various communities and also to improve their socio-economic status
